Do you recommend ERV or HRV system in mild climates or can do away with them?

We always recommend installing an HRV or ERVin any home with a heating or cooling system. Homes need fresh air for durability and humans need it for health. So if you are either heating or cooling a house with no HVAC system you are left with one solution, opening windows. At that point, air you paid to heat or cool is ejected from the home with no energy recovery.
Here is our page onChoosing Between an HRV and an ERV.
As for brands, we have used Van EE, Venmar, Lifebreath, Zehnder and other brands in our builds, we even used this system here that may be of interest –Lunos Ductless wall insert ERVs. I would see what is available regionally and base your decision on warranty, availability, cost, and its rate of efficiency, that information should be available through any brand website. But for sure I would install one if I were you regardless of what code says. Building code means well, but isn’t always your friend and doesn't always give the best advice : )
